I am excited to be the current Spokane Watercolor Society president! Joining the group in 2008 was a great move for me. I have grown considerably as an artist, I love the interaction with other artists and I have made many new friends. In addition to the focus on increasing our painting acumen, we have fun together. I’m happy volunteering to further our group’s goals and working with other like-minded artists on the board to keep the group running strong. Because we are a watercolor society, watercolor is where our main focus lies. Many of our members, however, do also paint/draw in other media, sometimes several. So, even if you do not strictly paint in watercolor but love being an artist, you should fit right in!

There is always business to take care of, but in addition, our monthly meetings may include a visiting artist, critique, a demo, a paint-out or some other form of artistic education. In 2012, our annual juried show was hung at Spokane’s Chase Gallery and judged by Dale Laitinen, NWS, WW (http://dalelaitinen.com). We jointly sponsored his workshop with Spokane Art Supply. Last year, our Regional Open Juried Show showed at the William Grant Gallery in Spokane. Our juror was Carl Purcell, NWS, UWS, (http://www.thewatercolorteacher.com), who also held a jointly sponsored workshop at Spokane Art Supply. Our 2014 Open Juried Show at the Interplayers Theatre Gallery in downtown Spokane, with judging and workshop by Lian Quan Zhen (www.lianspainting.com). The show and workshop were great successes! 2015 brought many exciting changes, with SWS completely sponsoring our juror, Bev Jozwiak (www.bevjozwiak.com), the incredible workshop she taught and our show was hung at The MAC! This year brings Gloria Miller Allen (www.gloriamillerallen.com) as our juror and also presenting a 5-day workshop sponsored by SWS.

Now that you have found us, you may have questions regarding membership. Please contact us through the listed numbers so we can provide you with information and encouragement to join our wonderful group! Thank you for stopping by!
